Where is the Ultimate Truth

The world today has become difficult. Aside from looking at the health crisis we are facing and the financial repercussions from this crisis, we are living in a world that doesn’t seem to know what truth is anymore. We are told that there is no undeniable truth and that there is only our version of the truth. Everything we once knew seems to be backward. We do not realize that we are being deceived. As an example, let’s look at the 10 Commandments (Exodus 20).

To just name a few, we are told to not make idols for ourselves, not to commit murder, not commit adultery, not to steal,  and not to bear false witness. When people think of idols, they think of small statues and worshipping another god. However, what people fail to realize is that idolatry stems to more than just that. If you put more importance on anything (money, people, success, things, hobbies) before God, then you are guilty of idolatry. We would think that most people would agree it is wrong to murder. However, if the person had a “good enough” reason to commit murder, then it’s ok. Like having an abortion because you weren’t ready to have a baby. Adultery is another one of those things that you would think people agree is wrong. However, society has made it a norm to go to strip clubs where you can look at a person lustfully. Jesus Himself told us that by even having those thoughts in our mind, we have committed adultery. Stealing normally isn’t a good thing. But, just like with murder, if there was a “good enough reason”, then the theft is justified. Bearing false witness or lying is normally considered wrong. But there are plenty of times when people would say that it would depend on the lie.

This world has been sucked into an ethical black hole where anything and everything is questioned. Don’t get me wrong, it is human nature to question things. However, we have taken our questioning too far as to reject what we once knew as truth. People may say that there is no way to know what is right and what is wrong anymore. I am here to tell you that we have had the truth in our hands but have chosen to ignore it. We find truth in the word of God. The thing is that those who are not truly seeking Him are blinded to what is written in black and white.

“For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God…But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.” – 1 Corinthians 1:18 and 2:14

I could sit here and write all day about what I know to be true. However, people may say, “Well, that’s your interpretation” or “Who says that the Bible holds the only truth?” So, instead, I am here to encourage you to read the truth for yourselves. I don’t know about you, but I am tired of living in a world where there seems to be no truth. God’s word holds the truth that we’ve been looking for. If you don’t understand what you read then ask the Holy Spirit to interpret the word for you. That is one of His many jobs. Don’t be deceived by the lies you hear. Let His word guide you as to what the real truth is.

“Beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ…Let no one cheat you of your reward, taking delight in false humility and worship of angels, intruding into those things which he has not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind, and not holding fast to the Head, from whom the body, nourished and knit together by joints and ligaments, grows with the increase this is from God.” – Colossians 2: 8, 18-19
