The Lord’s Prayer
by Leon
When we look deep into the Lord’s prayer we can see the many implications it can have on us throughout our daily living. (Matthew 6:9-13)
Pray then like this: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name.
In all things, we should always honor and revere our Lord. The bible says that the fear of the Lord (a fear of reverence) is the beginning of wisdom. As soon as we wake up we should admire and honor God for his marvelous works.
Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
By saying “Your kingdom come and Your will be done”, we are making the choice to surrender. We accept His will above our own. This is an act of denying ourselves and admitting that our will is not always the best and that we want His will for our lives.
Give us this day our daily bread,
When I read give us this day our daily bread two thoughts come to mind.
1. God is a supplier of our needs.
2. That Jesus is called the Bread of Life.
While God will supply all of our physical needs, including our food, we also hunger for spiritual bread. Growing our relationship with Jesus is us hungering and asking for more of His influence over our lives.
and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.
We are at times going to find ourselves falling short of the glory of God and into sin. No one is perfect but God promises us that if we confess our sins he will be faithful to forgive them. We are also going to find ourselves at odds with people who we may find difficulty forgiving. Unforgiveness can be a true hindrance to our relationship with God. It’s something that Jesus wanted us to deal with and it’s something we can ask Him to help us with.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
Temptation will always be present in our lives as long as we live. But there is no temptation that God allows which is above our ability to walk away from. We have help and that help is the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. We will also face evils. Evils from the world. Evils from people. Evils from the devil. Evils within ourselves. Yet we don’t have to face them alone. We can ask Him to be with us and deliver us. For God promises never to leave nor forsake us.
