The Beauty of His Word

The word of God is amazing. In it, we can find everything we need. It is through His Word that we can get to know God better and grow closer to Him. We can find comfort and strength in our time of need. We find guidance and instruction on how to live the best life. We can find peace and reassurance that we are safe in His hands. We find countless examples of God’s love and mercy for us within every word. We are truly blessed to have the freedom to read His word without fear.

During this week my husband and I have been having a Bible study with a few friends and I can honestly say that I’ve enjoyed every minute of it. Even though there are only a few of us who get together to read the Bible, we know that God is still with us in those times. As it says in the Bible,

“For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them.” – Matthew 18:20

Something that came up while we were finishing up our latest Bible study was the quote, “God works in mysterious ways”. I know that I have talked about this quote before, but it got me thinking again. Sometimes we indeed feel like God is a mystery. We feel like we can’t begin to comprehend why things happen the way that they happen. This of course led me to Isaiah 55:8-9 where it states,

“For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways,’ says the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways, And My thoughts than your thoughts.”

Wisdom, true wisdom comes from God. You can find verse after verse about it in the book of Proverbs. While I was looking up Isaiah 55, I came across a few more verses that spoke to me this morning that I want to share with you. These other verses are not on the same topic of wisdom, but they touch base on other topics that are important too.

“Why do you spend money for what is not bread, And your wages for what does not satisfy? Listen carefully to Me, and eat what is good, And let your soul delight itself in abundance. Incline your ear, and come to Me. Hear, and your soul shall live; And I will make an everlasting covenant with you,” Isaiah 55:2-3

We spend so much time trying to satisfy our earthly desires that we tend to neglect our spiritual needs. Jesus spoke of a water that will satisfy your thirst and of how man cannot live on bread alone. He was not speaking of literal water or literal bread. He was speaking of the Word of God. As important as it is to feed our bodies and to quench our thirst, it is more important to feed our spirit and to quench the thirst of our spirit by reading His word. That desire to want more out of life can only be satisfied through Jesus.

“Seek the Lord while He may be found, Call upon Him while He is near. Let the wicked forsake his way, And the unrighteous man his thoughts; Let him return to the Lord, And He will have mercy on him; And to our God, For He will abundantly pardon.” – Isaiah 55:6-7

We are told to seek the Lord. What does that mean exactly? It means we intentionally read His Word, we pray to Him, and we avidly listen for His guidance. This is the only way we can truly get to know who He is. When we get to know Him, we realize that God wants to change us for the better. We may have come to Him broken, but He doesn’t want us to stay that way. Therefore, He forgives us of our sins and guides us on how to be better. We are to forsake our old ways and start walking in Him. That doesn’t mean we won’t or can’t mess up, it just means that you need to rely on Him to help you be the best version of yourself.

“For as the rain comes down, and the snow from heaven, And do not return there, But water the earth, And make it bring forth and bud, That it may give seed to the sower And bread to the eater, So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me void, But it shall accomplish what I please, And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.” – Isaiah 55:10-11

Lastly, one of the most important things that God calls us to do is to go into this world and preach His word (Matthew 28:19-20). We don’t all have to be pastors to share God’s word with others. We can talk to our friends, our co-workers, or even someone we meet in the street. We don’t have to be afraid if we will say the wrong thing because God will give us the words to say. And as it says in Isaiah 55, His word does not return to Him void. It is our job to plant the seed and then let Jesus do the rest. It is through Jesus that people are saved.

As things in this world seem to get worse and worse, I truly advise you to grow closer to God. We need Him. It has nothing to do with the status of this world. We have always needed Him. As each day goes by, we need to fervently seek Him through His word and prayer. If you haven’t already given your life to Jesus, don’t wait until it is too late. God is calling you. He doesn’t care how broken you are or how “messed” up you are. He loves you and wants to give you a hope and a future. Let Him show you what true love is and I can promise you that you will not want to go back to how things were. He gives our lives meaning and a purpose. Allow Him into your heart today and see the wonders of our God.

“For you shall go out with joy, And be led out with peace; The mountains and the hills Shall break forth into singing before you, And all the trees of the field shall clap their hands. Instead of the thorn shall come up the cypress tree, And instead of the brier shall come up the myrtle tree; And it shall be to the Lord for a name, For an everlasting sign that shall not be cut off.” -Isaiah 55:12-13
