Speak Life

Today’s blog topic was inspired by James chapter 3 verses 1-12. In this chapter of the Bible it talks about the untamable tongue. Some may not understand what this means. How is the tongue untamable? We tend to think that we have good control of what we say and how we say things. However, all of us can relate to a time when we’ve said something we either didn’t mean to say or saying something that we immediately regret saying. Well, it’s times like these that prove to us that taming the tongue is no easy task.

“For every kind of beast and bird, of reptile and creature of the sea, is tamed and has been tamed by mankind. But no man can tame the tongue. It is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. With it we bless our God and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in the similitude of God. Out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not to be so.” – James 3:7-10

One of the biggest outlets people have to “speak their minds” is on social medias. People can post things that can be a blessing to others, or they can post things that can be hurtful. One of the biggest things I’ve personally had to stay away from is comments. Especially now a days, if I read an article about anything even semi-controversial, I will always find mean and hurtful comments that people post on social media. It’s disheartening. When did we become such an angry and hateful people?

Maybe it’s easier to just ignore it all. Maybe it’s easier to separate myself from all the negativity and just focus on all the positivity. However, I’ve come to realize that turning my back to the problem is not a solution. In order to make a difference, I need to start with myself. When Jesus came into my life, He changed it for the better. I need to learn how to rely on Him. It is He who lives in me and it is He who guides me into the light.

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” – 2 Corinthians 5:17

We all need to lean on Jesus. He is our only saving grace. He is the only one who can help us be better than we were yesterday. He is the only one who can help us tame our tongues. We don’t have to live in sin. It is through His grace that we have been freed. Lean on Jesus and He will direct your path. By leaning on God we can learn how to speak life in every conversation.

“For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace.” – Romans 6:14
