Seek to Find
by Leon
Sometimes we expect answers to come to us. We pray. We wait… And we wait some more. Indeed, there are times that that is enough and waiting on God is the right thing to do. However, inaction is not always the answer. There comes a time when we need to actively search to find. After all, Jesus said seek and you will find. Knock and the door will be opened to you.
Here are four biblical examples of people who earnestly sought, and how it changed their lives.
- Zacchaeus – Luke 19:1-10
He was a chief tax collector, wealthy and known by his people as a sinner. Zacchaeus was also very short. Crowds flocked to Jesus in multitudes. So, it was only natural that Zacchaeus being short, he could not see over the crowd. Zacchaeus had a choice. He could wait and hope somehow his situation changed, or he could do something to change it. Zacchaeus climbed a tree so he could seek out Jesus from a higher elevation. Jesus saw him and ended up staying at his house. By the end of this story, Jesus tells that salvation came to that household. Zacchaeus sought, and he found.
2. Lame Man Let Down Through the Roof – Luke 5:17-39
Jesus was teaching in a house, and once again the crowds were so numerous that it was impossible to get inside. This man had every reason to give up but his reason to push forward was stronger. He had others lower himself down into the house from the roof. This act of seeking led to him finding a miracle. Jesus healed him, and the man got up to walk.
3. The Woman with the Issue of Blood – Luke 8:43-48
This woman had been struggling with an illness for many years. She went to doctors, but they only made the issue worse. Still, she did not want to give up. She sought out Jesus and that one act of seeking, led to years of suffering ceased in a moment.
4. A Man with Leprosy – Matthew 8:1-4
Leprosy is a contagious disease, and in ancient Israel, if you had it you were not allowed to be in the presence of a crowd. If they did walk before people, they had the right to stone a leper to death. Despite this. The leper sought Jesus and ran out before a crowd. Jesus touched him, and he was instantly cleansed.
Sometimes we must be persistent. We must keep seeking. We must keep knocking. Our solutions aren’t always going to come to us. There are times when we must seek them out. All these people sought mercy from the Messiah. How can you seek out a solution for problems in your life today? A good step is prayer… actively studying the Bible. Just remember if you seek answers from God, you will find them.
