Our Responsibility

I can’t begin to express to you all how much I love writing for this blog. Being able to share of God’s love and of His grace has helped me get to know Him better. I may only have a small demographic of people that I reach, but I know that God’s word does not come back to Him empty. I can only hope that my blog has been just as big of a blessing to you all as it has for me. Since I can remember, I’ve always wanted to be an encourager. I want to help lift someone when they are down. I know that is something God has placed in my heart.

“Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing.” – 1 Thessalonians 5:11

I was reading my Bible this morning, and God revealed to me another part of my responsibilities. I am meant to be not only an encourager but also a watchman. In ancient times, watchmen were in charge of watching over people in the cities they were protecting and give them warnings when danger was approaching. You may ask, what does that have to do with this blog? Well, as I read the first few chapters of Ezekiel, this verse stood out to me.

“Son of man, I have made you a watchman for the house of Isreal; therefore hear a word from My mouth, and give them warning from Me;” – Ezekiel 3:17

No one likes to be told when they are wrong. I know I don’t. However, there are times when we fall away from God. It can be intentional disobedience or we just let things of this earth get in the way of our relationship with God. As a watchman, I need to tell you the dangers of your decisions. If I only told you that things were all great and dandy all the time, you would not see the dangers that lie ahead. This is a responsibility that all Christ-followers have. We are to share His word, share His love, and warn those who have strayed. Don’t let the fear of rejection keep you from fulfilling His will. As the word of God says:

“And you, son of man, do not be afraid of them nor be afraid of their words, though briers and thorns are with you and you dwell among scorpions; do not be afraid of their words or dismayed by their looks, though they are a rebellious house. 7 You shall speak My words to them, whether they hear or whether they refuse, for they are rebellious…But when I speak with you, I will open your mouth, and you shall say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord God.’ He who hears, let him hear; and he who refuses, let him refuse; for they are a rebellious house.” – Ezekiel 2:6-7 and 3:27

Each of us has a part to play in His plan. Some of us are called to be Pastors or Ministers. Others are called to sing. In my case, I was called to write. Each of us has our own calling. If any of you are anything like me, I never considered myself special enough to be called. In my mind, I was just an ordinary girl with no outstanding attributes. Why would God ever use me for His plan? Well, when you look within the Bible, God used a lot of “ordinary” people to fulfill His plan. Even Jesus Himself was just a carpenter from an ordinary town. However, God used Him to save ALL of humanity.

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” – John 3:16

Jesus called us all to go into this world and share His word. That means sharing His love and mercy with others, but also warning them to stop living in sin. By living in sin, we end up missing all the blessings God has for us. Why, then, would I not warn you to turn away from sin? Don’t let the things of this world distract you from Him. Don’t let fear keep you from sharing His word with others. Even if they decide that they don’t want to listen to you, you did your best to share His word with them. Be an encourager. Be a watchman.

“Moreover He said to me: “Son of man, receive into your heart all My words that I speak to you, and hear with your ears. And go, get to the captives, to the children of your people, and speak to them and tell them, ‘Thus says the Lord God’, whether they hear, or whether they refuse.” – Ezekiel 3:10-11
