Our Overcomer

I know that we are nearing the end of February, but this month and a half have seemed so long. In just the span of 52 days, so much has already happened. My family and I have gone through some really hard times. Despite all the difficulties, we have chosen to keep our faith in Christ. It may have been hard at times to overcome our fears, but put our trust in Jesus. He is the great overcomer.

“These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.” – John 16:33

It is easy to fall into fear or into despair. We are humans after all. We fear for our health, our safety, our finances, our purpose, our future, our loved ones, and our life.  As I said, it is easy to let fear take over. It is easy to put all your focus on all the troubles in your life. It is easy to forget that we have a great and loving God who is watching over us. A God who protects, guides, and provides for all of our needs. He gives us peace, strength, and wisdom to get through the hard times. We just need to trust in Him and let Him work.

“And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” – Philippians 4:19

The driving force of a Christ-centered life is faith. This is a topic I have spoken about again and again. There is a reason for that. Faith is extremely important. It is because of your faith in Christ that you are saved. To wholeheartedly believe that Jesus, the son of God, came to give His life for you is what grows us closer to God. You may not be able to physically see Him, hear Him, or touch Him, but your faith shows you that He is here.

“Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.” – Hebrews 11:1

Hard times will come and go, but one thing remains constant. God is with you through it all. He was there when the Jews were enslaved by the Egyptians and He freed them. He was there when young David was facing a giant and God helped him win the battle. He was there when a multitude of people came to listen to His teachings and rather than sending them away, He fed them. For those who think that the Bible is no longer relevant to today, I can tell you that you are wrong. Just like in those times, He is still here. He was there for me when I was born. When a bomb went off at the hospital where I was born, He kept me safe. He was there for me when I suffered from low self-esteem. He gave me the confidence to know that my life means something. He was there for me when my dad left and gave me the comfort of a loving Father. God has not left us…He is still here.

“Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God. And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; and perseverance, character; and character, hope. Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.” – Romans 5:1

Our God is the great overcomer. There is nothing that you can bring to Him that He cannot help you with. This is not to mean that we treat Him like some magical genie. He is not here to make all our wishes come true to later be forgotten. He can help you get through those hard times. You may not always get the result you wanted, but He will give you the strength to keep going. In the midst of your fears and doubts, trust in Him and He will make your path straight.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.” – Proverbs 3:5-6
