Living Waters

“A woman of Samaria came to draw water. Jesus said to her, “Give Me a drink.” For His disciples had gone away into the city to buy food. Then the woman of Samaria said to Him, “How is it that You, being a Jew, ask a drink from me, a Samaritan woman?” For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans. Jesus answered and said to her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, ‘Give Me a drink,’ you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water.” The woman said to Him, “Sir, You have nothing to draw with, and the well is deep. Where then do You get that living water? Are You greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well, and drank from it himself, as well as his sons and his livestock?” Jesus answered and said to her, “Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.” The woman said to Him, “Sir, give me this water, that I may not thirst, nor come here to draw.” – John 4:7-15

All of us have had that feeling of being thirsty or of being hungry. The easiest way to satisfy those feelings is to get something to eat or drink. Of course, not that much time later, these feelings come back and we have to continue on this perpetual cycle of eating and drinking. In the same way that we get hungry and thirsty, we live our lives trying to satisfy whatever feelings we are going through at the moment. Whether they be boredom, loneliness, restlessness, guilt, dissatisfaction, etc. We try to find the solution to all of these things in this world but in the end, come back empty and have to keep searching for answers. Those who have given their lives to Jesus have found the answer.

“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled.” – Matthew 5:6

God has given us such an incredible gift through His son Jesus Christ. It is because of His sacrifice that we can now have a personal more meaningful relationship with Him. Our Lord has promised to fulfill the desires of our hearts (Psalm 37). We once had an empty space in our hearts and we have tried everything to fill that void.  When we accept Christ as our Lord and Savior, He fills that void and we no longer feel empty. We are no longer alone because He is with us. We are no longer bored because He fills our life with purpose. We are no longer restless because He gives us rest. We are no longer guilty because He has washed away our sins. We are no longer dissatisfied because He has given us meaning. He is our living water and our bread of life.

“And Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst.” – John 6:35

This morning, I was giving my cat some water from the faucet. As she drank I was reminded of John 4:7-15. I couldn’t help but notice how much my cat always seeks water and thought, “I want to seek God in that exact same way”. I want to live my life in Him and for Him. I want nothing more than to grow closer to Him and to share His word with those around me. Jesus is my everything.

Maybe those who do not know Him may look at me as some crazy naïve little girl who lives a life of fantasy. However, ask anyone that knows me well, I am a realist. I don’t believe in love at first sight. I don’t believe in fairytales. I don’t believe in aliens or ghosts. I believe in what’s real. The love that I have felt from my Lord Jesus Christ is the most real thing that I have ever felt in my life. In my best times and in my worst times, He was always by my side. Everything He has done for me makes it impossible to ignore His call. How could I possibly deny the one who has given me the most precious gifts of life? Everything I am and everything I have is because of His love and mercy.

“Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever.” – 1 Chronicles 16:34

In these times of trouble, may His love increase in your life. May the fire that lives within you burn brighter and more intensely to the point where you can no longer ignore it. Our God promises to fulfill our needs and He is a God of His word. All those things in this world you think will make life better or easier will only leave you feeling empty. Jesus is the only one who can satisfy you. Come back to Him. He is coming soon and there is no better time to get close to Him than today.

“…Return to the Lord your God, for He is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness…” – Joel 2:13

I can definitely relate to this post for sure. More than anything I want to seek God more, grow closer to him, and please him in all that I do not for the benefits or for his favor, but solely because he is my Creator and redeemer, and the LEAST I can do for him is surrender my life to him and walk with him for the rest of my days 🙏🏻
