Little Blessings

This Friday, I decided to share a poem I wrote. To get a bit of context, I recently started working at a daycare where I have the privileged of watching over some wonderful children. One of my job responsibilities is to babysit a group of one-year-olds during nap time. It was during this time that I was inspired to write this poem. It’s a little different than my usual poems, but I think it is important to pray over our little ones. One day they will grow up and have to learn how to face this world. It is our job to show them that they don’t have to do it alone. They have a loving God who is with them…who has always been with them.

Here I sit in silence

watching

protecting

your little blessings

Each different in their own way

Yet they have their similarities

They have two little hands

With these hands

May they build something great

They have two little feet

That will take them to many places

May You bless the ways they go

They have two eyes

With them they watch the world in wonder

May they see You in everything they see

They have a little mouth

With which they will learn to express themselves

May their words be a blessing to others

They have a little mind

With it they will learn and grow

May You fill their minds with thoughts of You

They have little hearts

Beautiful little hearts full of love

May You always keep and guide their hearts

We forget sometimes that blessings aren’t always big

They can be small

Just like these little blessings

With their little smiles

Their little hugs

They are our future

God bless these little blessings

May they come to know You

May they grow in Your word

Show them true love

And as Your word says

I know they will continue in You
