Increasing Our Love

by Leon

Love is one of the most important biblical traits we can have. It was because of love that God sent His son to die for us. The Bible tells us, God is love, and that our faith is made perfect in love. Love is not always easy, not on our own. Mankind is born with an inherent disobedience towards our Creator. Because of that, we often feel the overwhelming emotions of anger, resentment, and annoyance. Sometimes against others and sometimes against ourselves.

However, we aren’t on our own. Because of that, we can ask our Father to increase and perfect our love. Walking in love builds us in ways we couldn’t imagine. You might struggle with certain sin strongholds that hold you back. Increasing your love is a powerful tool in taking those strongholds down.

Anger? Learn to love your brother.

Lust? Learn to love your brother or sister and know their worth.

Drinking? Learn to love yourself.

Increasing your love for others can be done by increasing your love for God. The more we love Him, the more we yearn to be like Him. If we are willing, God will work in our lives and mold us to be more like Him. Increase your love for God, sit back, and watch your love for others, as well as for yourself, increase. If we want to change or increase a godly trait, there is no better way to achieve it then to focus on Him.

Whilst focusing on God, it’s a good idea to cut out certain elements in our lives that do not demonstrate love. Music can have a strong impact on us whether we realize it or not, the same goes for television and movies. There are countless songs that glorify anger and adultery – neither of these traits promotes love. Countless movies and shows promote violence, lying, and affairs. By constantly exposing ourselves to these things, it can hinder God’s work in us to increase our love. Why? Because we are not surrendering that part of our lives for Him to do His work.

Today, as the day progresses, if you are needing an increase in your love (self-love or love of others), put your focus on God and ask Him to fill you with the same love which He has for you.
