Hope for the Future

Some of you may know that my husband and I recently found out we will be having a baby. We are very excited for this blessing God has given us and for the future of our family. In the midst of all the excitement, I can’t help but worry about the world we will be bringing our little one into. I am sure most Christ following parents feel the same. However, there is no reason to despair because we have an all knowing, all powerful God who is taking care of us.

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” -John 16:33

While I may not be a parent yet, I know there are thing I must do to instill the same hope I have to my future child. The first and most important thing is to continue to work on my relationship with God. I know that I will never reach perfection, however, I know the only way I can be a better daughter of Christ is to grow closer to Him. I can do this by studying my Bible, through prayer, and by sharing His word with those around me. I want to live the life I want to instill in my children.

“But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”- Matthew 6:33

The second thing I need to do is to teach my children of God from the very beginning. It is never to early to instill the love of God in our children. When I think back to my childhood, some of my most memorable memories where the times my mom took to teach my siblings and me about God. It was her dedication that led my brother, my two sisters, and me to look for God on our own. Just like her, I know that my job is to plant the seed and then just trust in God to do the rest.

“Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.” – Proverbs 22:6

Lastly, I know that one of the hardest things to do is to let go and to let God do His work. It can be hard to relinquish control to anyone, let alone to someone you can’t physically see. However, God tells us to trust in Him and He will direct our path. I need to trust that my efforts won’t be in vain. Before this baby was even conceived, I would pray that whenver God blessed me with a child, that He would take care of them and keep them in His light always. This is something that I will continue to pray for the rest of my life. I know that our God is faithful and that He will never leave us.

Our soul waits for the LORD; he is our help and our shield. For our heart is glad in him, because we trust in his holy name. Let your steadfast love, O LORD, be upon us, even as we hope in you.” – Psalm 33:20-22

Therefore, as we continue through each day, do not despair. There is hope for the future. As long as we keep our focus in Him and not on this world, then we can find the peace we need. We need to come together as a family in Christ to support one another to continue in His grace. Only God can unite us all. But first, we need to work on our own personal relationship with God and trust in Him.

And those who know your name put their trust in you, for you, O LORD, have not forsaken those who seek you.”- Psalm 9:10
