He Is Enough

I have had to overcome many mental battles in my life. I am sure most of you have had to do the same. Some may not agree with me when I say this, but I believe that mental battles are one of the hardest to overcome. Once we have convinced ourselves of something, it is very hard to get out of that mindset. We are our harshest critics. I can’t help but think that it’s because we expect so much of ourselves.

This isn’t always a bad thing. With the right mindset, we can take that self-criticism and use it to do something productive. However, there are times when we take things to heart and let them fester within us. We believe the lies that play within our own minds. It doesn’t matter where the lies come from. The fact of the matter is, they are now engraved in you and you believe them to be true.

In my own life, the biggest lie I ever told myself was that I was never going to be enough. I was never going to be smart enough, talented enough, pretty enough, or even enough to pass as a human being. I was focused on all of my shortcomings and I had convinced myself that not even God could love someone like me. It is because of this that I heavily relied on others in order to feel like my life had meaning.

What I came to learn in time is that this world cannot fill that empty feeling. The things of this world are fleeting. They may provide a brief distraction or even a brief moment of relief. However, once that moment passes, everything you are trying to run from is still there haunting you. It may seem easier to drown out our sorrows, but this will give you no reprieve.

I came to find peace in Jesus. I found acceptance in Him. His love is beyond understanding. I used to think that God loves us as people love. I thought that His love was based on circumstances and on how good we were. I was wrong. He doesn’t love us because of what we do or how great we may be. He loves us for who we are. We may be broken, but even so, He still loves us and is willing to help put us together again.

“He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” – Psalm 147:3

As I mentioned before, by having faith in Him, all that you need will be provided to you. Jesus gives us peace, love, guidance, strength, patience, freedom, and even more than we could possibly ever imagine. When we give our lives over to Him and accept Him as our Lord and Savior, our lives are transformed. I know because I’ve lived it. I have been through my fair share of heartaches, but I have never been so at peace as I am now with Him. I want the same for you.

“Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God. And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; and perseverance, character; and character, hope. Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.” – Romans 5:1-5

You see, God is enough. His love is enough. There is nothing on this earth that could possibly match up to His love for us. It is true that we are not worthy of His love and grace. However, despite all the wrong we do, He still loves us. How do we know that? Because Christ came to die for us so that we may finally have a way to get back home to Him. Before Jesus, we were lost in a dark forest, stumbling, trying to find our way back home. The moment Jesus gave His life for us, the way was made.

“Therefore, as through one man’s offense judgment came to all men, resulting in condemnation, even so through one Man’s righteous act the free gift came to all men, resulting in justification of life. For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so also by one Man’s obedience many will be made righteous.” – Romans 5:18-19

We have the opportunity to take part in His kingdom. We just need to let go of all the things of this world and accept Him as our Lord and Savior. By giving everything we are and everything we have to Him, we can finally be free of all our burdens. We just need to believe in Him who came for us. He is enough.

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” – John 3:16
