God Our Protector

by Leon

There are so many reasons to be afraid. We can be afraid of circumstances, people, current events, natural disasters, and so on. Fear is something that takes us all in some way. But those who believe can find assurances in the promises of God. We must learn to realize that we have a hedge of protection that comes from our Creator.

“The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.” – Psalm 18:2

Throughout life, we will find ourselves in situations that may cause us to worry. We must try to remember that no matter what we face, God our protector is walking beside us. He promises to never leave us. Nothing – not a thing, can separate us from the love of our God.

“For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” – Romans 8:38-39

Sin may blind us to His will, but even when we sin, if Christ is our savior, then by His grace our Protector remains with us. God is our ultimate shield against everything that could ever seek to harm us. And even if we do face something not particularly comfortable – we know that God can use it for our own benefit.

“And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.” – Romans 8:28

Joseph faced many uncomfortable trials, but in all of them, God remained with him. He was sold into slavery – sent to a foreign land – cast into prison and even in all of that, God kept him safe and blessed him. Another powerful testament to the protective nature of our God is King David. Many enemies and even former friends and family sought to bring him harm. Yet God kept him safe.

“And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good,[a] for those who are called according to his purpose.’ -Isaiah 54:17

Sometimes our fears can get to us. They got to the prophet Jonah and he spent a long time running from the will of God. However, when Jonah repented and faced his fears, he would come to be protected by God too. We can often end up like Jonah, allowing something to frighten us but we must remember that God is on our side.

“What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?” – Romans 8:31

No matter what situation we may face, our God is with us and is here to shelter us.

“He will cover you with his pinions, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness is a shield and buckler.” – Psalm 91:4
