Focus on Him
It’s crazy to see how much our lives have changed in such a short period. Not that long, we were going about our lives without a care in the world. We weren’t worried about germs, the economy, or our freedoms. Now, all we ever hear about is the devastating effect of the coronavirus. Most of our focus is on the virus and how to survive it. Don’t get me wrong. I encourage you all to stay safe and to do what you can to limit the spread of the virus. However, this is not where our focus should be. Even in the midst of these dark times, God is still with us. He never once left us.
“Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the Lord your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you.” – Deuteronomy 31:6
So many people have come together in prayer. We pray for healing. We pray for those in the medical field. We pray for protection. I, of course, have prayed for these things as well. However, my biggest prayer has been that we keep our eyes on Him. That our focus remains on growing stronger in Him. I pray that those who do not know Jesus come to learn about Him in these times. May he provide you all with the comfort you need.
“Now may our Lord Jesus Christ Himself, and our God and Father, who has loved us and given us everlasting consolation and good hope by grace, comfort your hearts and establish you in every good word and work.” – 2 Thessalonians 2:16-17
What has kept me at peace during all of this is His word and worship music. One song, in particular, spoke to me yesterday. If you haven’t heard of the song “Magnify” by We Are Messengers, I highly recommend you do. When I listen to this song I can’t help but think about how in times of crisis the reason we turn to Him is that we know that He is the only one who can get us through it. As we call unto Him, He provides what we need to keep going. We need to put Jesus at the center of our lives. As it says in the song: “God be greater than the worries in my life. Be stronger than the weakness in my mind. Be louder, let your glory come alive. Be magnified!”
We are not alone. Our Lord Jesus Christ is still with us. I know that with all that is going on around us it is hard to see it. Once you stop focusing on the waves, you will see His love and grace. I’ve used the story of Peter when he tried to walk on water several times because we do the same thing he did. Jesus was right in front of Him and yet Peter let his fears bring him down. However, in the same way Jesus pulled Peter out of those waters, He will get us through this too.
“Now may the Lord of peace Himself give you peace always in every way. The Lord be with you all.” – 2 Thessalonians 3:16
