Recently, I have been thinking a lot about light. In olden times people used candles and lanterns to light up the dark. As time went by, electricity has made it possible to have access to constant and brighter light. It’s interesting to think about how when the power goes out, we immediately go for our flashlights to keep from being consumed by the darkness. Of course, I know that the reason we do that is so that we may be able to see where we are going and so that we may not fall over anything that could be in our way. As Christ-followers, we have been blessed with a spiritual light to guide us in our everyday life.  

“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” – Psalm 119:105

            It’s sad to say, but we live in a very dark and scary world. As time marches on, this world keeps getting darker and darker. In my own lifetime, I’ve come to see so much horror, violence, and hatred. However, even amid the darkness, we can find light…His light. Jesus Christ is our light. He takes care of us and guides us so that we don’t stumble.

“Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.” – John 8:12

            When we live a life apart from God, we easily fall and stumble in the dark. What that means is that we can easily fall into temptation and into sin. It is because of sin that we can’t live a life of joy, peace, love, and understanding. We constantly wonder why things can’t get better or why these things keep happening to us. In His light, we receive the fruits of the spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.  Apart from Him, we are lost.

“But the path of the just is like the shining sun, That shines ever brighter unto the perfect day. The way of the wicked is like darkness; they do not know what makes them stumble.” – Proverbs 4:18-19

            Today’s message is simple: Come into His light. You don’t have to live a life lost and alone. Jesus is here to guide you and to help you on your journey. By accepting Him as your Lord and savior you will experience a love like no other. Open your heart to Him and He will provide everything you need. I once lived in the dark and I hated my life. I couldn’t stand myself and I kept wondering why I even existed. Jesus led me out of that darkness and brought me into the light. For once in my life, I love who I am. I know I am not perfect, but that’s ok. I am at peace and I now know my purpose… To love, as Jesus loves me, and to share His works in my life.

“This is the message we have heard from Him and declare to you: God is light; in Him there is no darkness at all. If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth. But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, His Son, purifies us from all sin. If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:5-9
