All-Powerful Love

What is the first thing that comes to your mind when you think of God? Some people think of His awesome power. A power so great that it created the universe, parted the Red sea and freed a nation from its oppressors. His power is so great that it can feed a multitude, heal countless people, and even conquer death itself. However, in the midst of this power, there is something deeper, something purer and more amazing. Love. Anything and everything God has done, does, will do is out of love.

Looking at each of the things I listed as examples of His power, you can see the love behind it. God created this universe, making sure that before He made us, it was good. Why? Because He loves us. After finally being freed by the pharaoh, Moses and the Israelites were trapped by the Red Sea. He parted the waters to get them safely across. All of this happened because God was showing them that He loved them and that anything is possible in Him.

For three years Jesus preached the word of God and performed many miracles. When multitudes came to see Him, rather than just sending them on their way, He fed them. Why? Because He loved them. People came to Jesus left and right, even those who were not Jews came for healing. He healed them all and even brought some back from the dead. Why? Because He loved them. Near the end of His life, Jesus was accused He did not commit. He was innocent. Rather than fight for His life, He gave His life as a sacrifice to pay for our sins. Why? Because He loves us and wants us to spend eternity with Him. Anything and everything He does is out of love because He is love.

“He who does not love does not know God, for God is love. In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him. In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.” – 1 John 4:8-10

More and more I see a world that is forgetting the true meaning of love, and it saddens me. As humans, we are allowing ourselves to be filled with hate and resentment. We see the definition of love in 1 Corinthians 13:4-8:

“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.”

We need to remember what love really is and the importance of love in our daily lives. Love can be caring and understanding, but it is also honest and gives guidance when needed. That is what God does for us every day. In the same way, He wants us to share that love with others. In that way, they may see Him in our own lives. We were meant to stand out as His chosen. Let His love fill you and guide you.

“And now these three remain: faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is love.” – 1 Corinthians 13:13
