A Prayer for the Future

As time goes by, I can’t help but think more and more about the future. With the way things are around the world, it’s hard to be optimistic about what’s to come. What Jesus said in Luke 18:8 keeps replaying in my mind. “…Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will He really find faith on the earth?” With stories about all the violence, the sicknesses, the fighting, and Christians falling away, it’s hard not to be pessimistic. However, we cannot lose hope. Our hope and future lie in Jesus. As long as we cling to Him, there is always hope for the future.

“Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” – Romans 15:13

On this Friday, I want to take the time to pray for our future. Even though things may seem bleak, we cannot give up. Jesus is our living hope. We need to grow closer to Him now more than ever. Don’t let the darkness of this world overtake you. Let His light shine upon you and lead you in the right path. Seek Him and you will find Him.

Dear Lord,

I firstly want to thank you for everything you do for us. Every day is a new opportunity, a new blessing. As humans, we fail time and time again. But Your love is so great that You still love us even when we fail You. I know that Your love will never fail us, as it says in Psalm 136. Even when times get tough, You are an ever-present help in times of trouble. I can’t thank You enough for Your love, mercy, and grace, God.

Father, I can’t lie and say that I don’t ever fear for the future. In all honesty, there are times that I find it hard to be optimistic when I see how far we have fallen. When I see all the malice and all the hate. When I see this world praising what is evil and condemning what is good. When I see how this world tries to twist Your words in order to make those who believe in You doubt. I am heartbroken. It becomes harder and harder to see the light in all the darkness.

However, I still haven’t given up hope because You are still with me. Even though I walk through the valley of shadow and death, I will fear no evil for You are with me. Your word tells us to keep our trust in You and You will keep us safe. I know that as long as I have You, I have no reason to be afraid of anything that this world may throw at me. Thank you, for always protecting me, Lord.

God, I pray for our future. I may not know what is to come, but You do. I ask that You protect us and help us grow closer to You. We have strayed so far from the path and the only one who can help us is You. Open the eyes and hearts of those who refuse to acknowledge Your existence. Give understanding to those who say they know You. May we all come to know the real You. I know that it is only in You that our hope remains. Without you, there is no hope.

Jesus, may we never forget Your sacrifice. You alone can save. It is not our works that save us, it is You who came to save us all. My light, my Savior. I praise Your name until the end of my days. May Your will be done in our lives. Thank you, Father, for Your guidance and peace. I know that one day every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that You are Lord. Thank you, Lord, for everything. In Jesus’ name, I pray.

Amen.

“Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.” – Hebrews 10:23
