A Prayer for Our Country

We are living in uncertain times. It is very hard to know what is going to happen just around the corner. However, one thing is certain. We have an all-caring, all-loving God who will guide us through. I want to take this time to pray for our nation, our leaders, and everyone who lives in it.

Dear Father,

I want to thank you for everything you have done for us. We are blessed to live in a country where we are not oppressed. I can freely read Your word, worship Your name, and gather in Your name without fear. I know a time will come where these rights will be taken away from me. However, until then, I thank you for giving us this time to grow closer to you, Lord.

God, I can’t lie and say that I am not worried about our countries future. I see what this nation is becoming and it saddens me to see how far we have strayed. I pray that, as a country, we come back to You. May Your people be a shining light to others in these dark times. May Your love and glory be seen throughout this land. May those who are lost and wandering in the dark see that You are what’s missing in their lives. As for those who know you, may we wake up and gain courage in these times. God, give us the courage to speak Your truth. May we never lose sight of who came to save us.

I know that many people are hurting. I know many people are angry. Only You, Lord, can comfort them. Only You can soften our hearts so that we may forgive those who have wronged us. Jesus, You told us to love one another as You have loved us. Fill our hearts with love for one another.

Father, I pray for our leaders. From our local leaders to our state leaders, all the way up to our President. We sometimes forget that there is no authority that was not established by You. You have placed these people here for a reason, Lord, and our job is to pray for them. May you lead them and guide them in Your will. May Your will be done on earth as it is in Heaven.

God, bless the President. This is the person You have placed to guide our nation. May You give him the wisdom to know what is right. May You give him the understanding to do what is best for the people. May You give him the humility to know what Your will is for him. And if he doesn’t know who You are, may he come to know You and grow closer to You every day.

Lord, You have done so much for us, even when we don’t deserve it. Your love is never-ending. Thank you for loving us unconditionally, Father. Thank you for Your blessings, Your grace, and Your sacrifice. We thank you for everything You have done for us, Father. And it is in Your name, Jesus, we pray.

Amen.

“Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus,” – 1 Timothy 2:1-5
