A Cry
by Leon
A desert set before me–
empty and vast,
A cry to my Father–
“How will these people last?”
An echoing voice, reminders all the same.
Be steadfast–
And,
“Cling tightly to My staff.”
The unjust pursue us–
tyranny seeking to undo us,
A call to my Father–
“To spare us from dust.”
An echoing voice,
“In Whom shall ye trust?”
Surrounded by the sea–
With nowhere left to flee,
I turned toward my people–
“Who is left to guide thee?”
An echoing voice,
“I AM HE.”
Wandering through the desert–
Our troubles did not end.
An ocean of hunger–
“How shall ye tend?”
An echoing voice,
“Sustenance I shall send.”
Darkness brought blindness–
Stumbling and frailty.
The people grew spineless,
“Shall we return to sire?”
An echoing voice,
“I shall be your pillar of fire.”
Fear, doubt–
Rising to heaven like a horrific scent,
A thirst unquenched–
And troubled tents
“Shall we seek mercy and burn incense?”
An echoing voice,
As
water ushered from cement.
“I shall relieve your torment.”
Amalekites brought fright–
Their armies saw no end in sight.
“What choice have thee but to fight?”
An echoing voice,
“Rely solely upon My might.”
Mount Sinai gleamed–
These commands sinners did us deem.
My
heart ached and screamed.
“Impossible to keep they seem!”
An echoing voice,
“Ye shall be redeemed.”
